I had never attempted watercolors before because I was too intimidated by them. A couple months ago, I discovered an ad for Watercolor Mastery on Facebook and I watched one of the complimentary mini lessons. I was so impressed by Emily’s teaching style that I went out and bought some painting supplies. I painted a couple of the free tutorials and was hooked! I joined Watercolor Mastery soon after and also joined the private Facebook group. I can honestly say that I have rarely experienced such a supportive and encouraging group of people! Meanwhile, I try to do the daily challenges as I have time and have learned so much in a relatively short time thanks to the guidance and instruction provided in those daily challenges. I would recommend this to anyone who is curious about watercolors and would like to learn in a fun, non-stressful manner.
Emily is exceptional at painting and teaching how to paint fluffy animals and their eyes. She is enthusiastic and easy to follow. For her tutorials, she provides a photograph, sketch, and her final painting. The tutorials are in real time, making it easy to follow along. You also can pause the videos if you need more time to complete certain sections. Emily provides a list of paints and alternatives for each tutorial which is helpful since we don’t all use the same make of paint. She is also great at mixing up colors and teaches how to paint with only a few colors. She is great at teaching how to layer paint and apply different painting techniques. I signed up for this course primarily to learn how to paint animals and people although Emily offers a lot more including daily challenges. I had focused on landscapes before taking Emily’s course, but wanted to learn as much as possible about the various watercolor techniques. I was originally an oil painter, but a year ago switched to watercolor when I had to give 8 talks in the Bahamas and had just had a hip replacement 6 weeks before and couldn’t swim since the incision was not healed. I needed something to do and could not use oil paints since the canvases would not dry enough for travel home. I have never looked back. After a watercolor painting is dry, it is matted, framed, then up on the wall. I am still working on the animals in Emily’s tutorials, but once they are completed, I shall switch to her people tutorials. The paintings I have completed as a consequence of viewing Emily’s tutorials have received great accolades. Thank you Emily! In between her tutorials, I continue work on my own landscapes.
